23 Things I’m Thankful For

If you’re friends with me, you undoubtedly know that I am a huge fan of birthdays and of my own in particular. So today, in honor of my birthday, I’ve decided to post a list of 23 things I’m thankful for. I think it’s a great way to remind myself of all the great things I have in my life and that I’ve had a chance to experience.

Maybe you’d like to create a list as well. It doesn’t have to be as long as mine, but feel free to share some of the things you’re thankful for in the comments.

(In no particular order)

My family

My parents and my brother are the absolute best. I don’t know what or who I’d be without them. My parents are so awesome, understanding, and supportive. And my brother always has my back.

My mental health

A year ago, I wasn’t doing so well. So I’m really happy that I am now.

Health insurance

In the past couple years I’ve had surgery, gone to physical therapy, been prescribed medication, and received a treatment for pain in my wrist. All of this would be so much more stressful if it weren’t for my health insurance.

My best friend

We could talk for hours. We’ve lived together, struggled through college together, traveled together, and been on so many Starbucks runs together. My life would feel empty without her.

Creative outlets

Painting, drawing writing… These are just a few of my creative outlets. And I love finding new ways to express myself.

A car that functions

If it weren’t for my car, I don’t know how I would get around, see my friends, or occasionally take road trips.

The comfort of home

I often complain about the town where I live, but the truth is that I absolutely love it. I’ve enjoyed my time here, and for now this is home.

My college degree

Sure, post-college life isn’t going exactly as I’d hoped, but I’m glad I got my degree, and I’m glad I studied what I did. I learned a lot during my time in college, and I’m still passionate about the dreams I’ve had all along.

The clothes in my closet

I’ve decluttered my wardrobe, and now it’s so much easier to find something to wear.

Wedding invitations

Because I think it’s so awesome when people say they want me to witness the most important day of their lives thus far.

Books and their authors

I love reading, so this one is obviously on the list.

Spontaneous hangouts

Nothing beats going from having no plans to going on an adventure with friends.

Adopted family members

Why have friends when you can have cousins instead?

Sunsets and nice weather

I’ve been working on appreciating nature more. Sunsets are so beautiful, and they happen every single day.

Spoken word poetry

There are some really wonderful spoken word poets out there who are so honest and vulnerable. I love watching these types of videos and getting to see people perform something personal that they’ve written.

The YouTubers I follow

If you haven’t gotten into YouTube before, you definitely should. There are so many great videos out there. It’s because of YouTube that I got into minimalism, and I’m always learning about different perspectives and lifestyles.

Music

There are so many bands and musicians out there that I enjoy listening to. I love going to concerts or hearing a new song for the first time. I’m really happy that there are people out there who create so many different types of music.

Social media

I know people hate on it a lot, but this is such a great way to connect with other people. Because of social media, I can see what friends who are far away are up to and keep in touch with them a lot more easily. I’m also able to connect with people who have similar interests as me.

Friends who come to town to visit

Now that college is over, friends have moved away, and it’s always so great when I get to see them again. I got to spend yesterday evening with one such friend, and I really enjoyed it.

Road trips

Even when the destination is just a couple hours away, it’s always so much fun to get in the car and get a change of scenery for a little bit.

Technology

I guess I’ve mentioned several types already, but modern technology does so many great things. There are a lot of things I’m so glad to have in my daily life but don’t really think about, like plumbing and air conditioning.

Long phone calls

I love catching up with friends spontaneously and then realizing an hour later that so much time has passed by and we’re still so happy to be talking to each other.

Coffee shops

They’re a great place to socialize, hang out alone, or study/work. They’re great for everything.
