Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 by Cho Jam-Noo is a punch to the gut. It's about an everywoman living in Korea who experiences misogyny over and over to the point of it affecting her psychological wellbeing. Three years and one day ago, I created this account and published my first post, a random photo of a stack of books that I'd taken a couple years prior. A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow is a YA book with elements of magical realism. The story follows Tavia and Effie, sisters and best friends living in Portland, Oregon. Tavia is a siren but keeps that a secret from most people she knows, since mostly everyone is afraid of sirens. Meanwhile, Effie spends most of her free time swimming and feels insecure about tries to blend into the background. My family was so great last week and gifted me a few books I've been wanting to read and own copies of! I'm so, so grateful to be able to add these to my collection. Where should I start? Happy pub day to Breathe and Count Back from Ten by Natalia Sylvester! I was able to read a digital advanced copy of this book thanks to @Netgalley, and it's definitely a new favorite! Can't believe I'm 28, but it's looking good on me so far 😊 Everything Is Spiritual by Rob Bell is only the second book I've read by him, and I definitely did enjoy this one better. While I do enjoy his writing style, I wish he included chapter breaks in his books. It'd be easier to know where to pause between reading sessions. After seeing all the hype around Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez, I was so curious about this one. As Long As Grass Grows: The Indigenous Fight for Environmental Justice, from Colonization to Standing Rock by Dina Gilio-Whitaker was such an informative and profound read for me. I learned so much about the ways Indigenous people have been fighting both to protect the Earth and to continue having access to their sacred sights. I also learned about the ways Indigenous people of this land view the world and what their relationship is to the land. I appreciated this book so much for all the knowledge it provided me, and I appreciated the information it gave about steps forward.
