How to Keep a Clean Living Space

Getting organized isn’t always that difficult. The hard part is making sure everything stays that way. You spend a day or two moving items around and placing them in just the right way. Then when you need to use those items, they don’t get placed back and the system gets ruined.

Get rid of items you have no use for. Get rid of the clutter. Go through old papers, receipts, and mementos that you no longer need or want to hold onto. Throw out, recycle, or give away items that you want to get rid of so you can have a clear space. There’s just about always something you can get rid of that can free up some space.

Organize items by category. In order for you to remember where everything goes, it helps if you organize items in categories. For example, you can keep hobby supplies together, tools in another location, and anything electronic (batteries, chargers, etc.) in another spot. This might seem obvious, but it can be easy to just throw everything into a drawer and then wonder later why it’s so difficult to find what you’re looking for.

Assign a space for everything you own. Instead of just hiding stuff when you’re cleaning up, take the time to find a permanent home for those items. Even those random knick knacks that don’t seem to have a category need a specific place to go back to when you’re done using them. So figure out a place where you’ll be able to consistently store those items.

Set a box somewhere for items you’d like to get rid of. If you’re taking the time to declutter, it can get a bit difficult to keep those items organized. Set a box in a corner where you can place the items you’d like to get rid of. Once a week or so, you can offer those items to friends, take them to a thrift shop, or drop them off at a charity. It’ll make decluttering a lot more effortless when you already have a place to drop items throughout the week.

These are just a few tips to help you get started with keeping your space organized. Whether big or small, it’s possible to keep a clean and tidy living space.
