Eco-Friendliness Money & Shopping

4 Purchases That Will Help You Be More Eco-Friendly

Usually I don’t encourage you to make new purchases. Today, however, I will be sharing with you some purchases that you can make to help out the environment. The whole purpose behind these purchases would be to produce less waste and to use these items many, many times.

If you already own some of these but don’t use them, pull them out of wherever you’ve stored them and create a more sustainable routine for yourself. You don’t need to purchase what you already have.

The first item that I’d like to suggest you purchase is a reusable water bottle. Stainless steel would be best. It’s not harmful to the environment in the way plastic is, and it’s more durable than glass. (Do glass water bottles exist? I have a glass tumbler, and those are basically of the same thing…)

The next item to purchase is a travel mug for your tea or coffee. Or a tumbler, depending on if you drink your beverages hot or cold. Maybe you like taking your own beverage to work from your home, or maybe you’re the type of person who often stops by a coffeeshop. It’s better to use the same cup every day than it is to dispose of a paper or plastic cup every single day, sometimes more than once a day. Sometimes coffeeshops will give you a discount if you bring a reusable cup, so you’ll slowly gain back the money you spent on that cup.

Tote bags are another great purchase that helps out the environment. This is something I’m guessing you already own and have stored away somewhere. Tote bags are often given away with other purchases. While the concept of reusable plastic bags is great, tote bags are even more environmentally friendly. If you already own reusable plastic bags, though, use those. You already have them, so there is no need to buy something else that will work just as well.

Use tote bags when grocery shopping or when you’re carrying a few items from one place to another. This is a great way to use less plastic. It might not seem like a big change, but it will make a difference.

Lastly, glass jars are a great purchase if you’d like to become more environmentally friendly. These can be used for a variety of purposes. You can use these to buy items in bulk. Just make sure you weigh the empty jar first and write down the tare. You can also use them for storage in the pantry, refrigerator, or freezer. They’re also great because you can see whatever it is that’s inside each jar.

If you don’t want to spend money on jars, save the glass jars from items you already purchase and use them for whatever needs come up. This can be a good way to slowly transition into a different system.

I hope you’re able to take some of these changes in your own life. Even just doing one or two of these will make a difference. And once you start to apply these, you’ll realize they don’t take that much time or energy.
